Kevin Armstrong began playing and studying guitar in Hampshire at the age of eight. After fronting his own rock band at school, he developed a love of jazz while at university. He has worked as a teacher and professional guitarist since leaving Oxford Brookes University in 1988.

His interest in education led him to study teaching theory and techniques, gaining an RSA diploma in 1994; while his passion for jazz led him to London to study guitar method and theory with leading UK musicians, Dave Cliff and John Parricelli.

"I enjoy teaching at all levels: it can be just as rewarding helping someone strum their first Em chord as hearing someone master a piece by Jimi Hendrix or Wes Montgomery!"

Kevin is a member of The Registry of Guitar Tutors and some of his students opt to take the RGT guitar exams, which are run through the London School of Music.

"I currently have students doing Coldplay, Alanis Morrissette, Hendrix, beginner classical guitar, Bowie, Beethoven, The Kinks, Scottish folk, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Bossa Novas, Miles Davis – there's a lot of good music out there!"

Kevin co-leads the successful group, The Jazz Menagerie, whose repertoire ranges from early and modern jazz through to funk and R&B. He is also a member of The European Jazz Friends, an eclectic eight-piece band who perform at Jazz Festivals around Europe.
