Making Music Fun logo Michelle Keating formed Salt Box Music Company in 2000, with the aim of providing a hands-on, imaginative, fun and educational music programme for 0-8 year olds. Salt Box Music Company has evolved and now provides early years musical educational services into nurseries, pre-schools, infant schools, and private group sessions.

Salt Box Music Company remains a family run organisation, and whilst employing additional teachers to meet our growing demand, remains focussed on providing a high standard of musical education in a uniquely fun and imaginative way. We retain full control of educational and creative content to ensure that we provide quality services.

Michelle uses a wide range of techniques to develop core skills such as rhythm, tempo, pitch, texture, and volume.

Children from as young as birth date have the opportunity to meet a range of puppets, express themselves through movement, and experience percussion instruments at all classes. All group session musicians record their learning in the Salt Box Musicians Manual. The manual provides a reference document that can be used by musicians, parents, and carers, to encourage further development at home. A week is a long time in a small person's world so the Musicians Manual also provides continuity from one session to the next.

Photograph of children in music class Every session follows a structure, in order to provide a familiar, comfortable environment in which children can learn. Michelle is more than happy to discuss lesson plans and individual requirements with parents and carers.

Michelle is able to offer references for all Salt Box Music Company classes and encourages parents and carers to sample a class (free of charge) before enrolling in a block of sessions.

"The most important thing is that children have fun with music, then the learning follows. The structure is there to make children feel secure, it is the activities within this structure that provide the variety and stimulation. Our games and activities are designed to encourage a little one's social development such as confidence building, sharing & listening, as well as their musical skills.

Many parents who contact me are concerned that their toddler won't sit still for 45 minutes! However the classes are structured for children to move and express themselves. If a child feels the need to get up and dance to music that's being played then this is fantastic! Babies cannot be too young to be stimulated by music, so we have no minimum age. I have 3 young children and know that regardless of their musical talent, they have all enjoyed and benefited from their musical experiences from birth."
