In 1994 I graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire where I studied piano and bassoon. I had my 5 minutes of fame in about 92 when my hands were featured on the BBC1 drama 'Dangerfield' playing the 2nd mvt of the Shostakovich 2nd piano concerto. I then went on to complete a P.G.C.E. in secondary music at Cheltenham College the following year and taught class music for a further two years. I gained a position, teaching woodwind as a peripatetic for another 7 years, during which time I also studied flute up to grade 8.

I aim to make lessons enjoyable and believe it is important to learn in a friendly relaxed atmosphere and for the pupil teacher relationship to be one of mutual respect. Lessons are structured and cover technique, pieces and basic improvisation/ composition. Choice of repertoire is extremely important and there are now more interesting music/ tutor books available since I started learning, many include CDs and some now have DVDs!

Many pupils enjoy the challenge of working towards exams and find this motivates them to practise and progress. I have over 10 years' experience teaching associated board exams with excellent results.

During my years as a visiting woodwind teacher I have worked with many young pupils starting from school year 3 for flute and year 2, descant recorder. I have also run a keyboard group at a music centre and taught individual piano lessons to a range of ages, from 5 through to adults.

You will always be in great demand as a player if you are a bassoonist. If you are interested want to have a go before doing anything drastic like hiring or buying an instrument I can give you a trial lesson on my own, you will need a reed (£7 – 12) and to be school year 6 or above, adults also welcome! I have played in many shows and orchestras including about 5 years with the Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra and love to play whenever possible. I also play the flute in a ceilidh band and particularly enjoy playing folk music.

If you would like to try a lesson or have a chat about anything first this is fine. I live in Marston, which is in North-East Oxford close to Brooks University and the cycle lanes. There is parking available.
